Make sure the iron has cooled down completely and is unplugged from the wall socket before you start cleaning. Safety first.
Make a paste of baking soda and water. Mix a small amount of baking soda with water until you get a thick paste.
Apply the paste to the ironing pad. Use your fingers or a soft cloth to apply the paste to the sole of the iron. Make sure the paste is evenly distributed on the surface of the soleplate.
Let the paste soak in for some time. Let the paste sit on the soleplate for a few minutes to give the baking soda a chance to act on any stains or caked-on dirt.
Take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the paste off the soleplate. Make sure you remove any residue of the paste.
Check for any dirt or stains remaining on the soleplate. If there are still stains, you can use a mild soap solution to further clean the soleplate. Moisten a cloth with the soap solution and gently wipe over the sole to remove any remaining stains.
Rinse the sole with clean water. Take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the soleplate to remove any soap residue.
Dry the soleplate thoroughly. Use a dry cloth to dry the soleplate completely before storing or reusing the iron.
Note: Always check the user manual of your specific iron for cleaning instructions, as some irons require specific cleaning methods.
